2. AFROTRANSTOPIA | MOVIMENTO

Since 2014, I’ve been actively collaborating with the coreographer, performer and director Mario Lopes, especially in art projects related to the research on Afrotranstopia and the series of projects entitled Movimento and Veiculo SUR.

By the use of live visuals, projection mapping, interactive and body sensors, I collaborate in several performances and projects realted to the Afrotranstopia research initiated by Mario Lopes, exhibiting the results especially in Europe and South America.

Afrotranstopian technology does not only mean technical or digital resources - means what we also use in the creation process. In Afrotranstopia, technology is thought of as mobilisation and activation of knowledge, ways of life (existences) and of matriarchal, ancestral, indigenous and Afrodiasporic forms of resistance. Afrotranscendence is the multiple strategies for staying alive, even when it seems impossible.

Movimento I is a study on giving sonority to the body and body to the instrument. It gives vent to what starts in the sonorities of the past and continues to scream in the present. The movements follow the compass of command, which depresses the heartbeat; the silenced words that seek to manifest; and the ability to tell and retell.  It is an investigation into the impact on the body in strange contexts. Kodex_Konflikt reflects on our social codes of behavior, processes of physical adaptation and moments of confrontation with the body that is perceived as strange by language, skin color or ways of being.

Those who are recognized as foreigners (by idiome, appearance and habits) seek camouflage strategies that allow them to enter and penetrate “norms”.
